Former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson Rene Meulensteen has slammed United wingers Antony and Alejandro Garnacho, insisting the pair should be sold.

Meulensteen has been incisive in his criticism of Antony, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Real Betis, describing him as “selfish”, while also describing Garnacho as “a bane of United”. The former assistant
also revealed that Ajax were delighted to agree to sell Antony for £80million in August 2022. With United now set to take a huge loss on the deal.
“If it were me, I would not bring Antony back. Because I have seen enough of him that he is not the right player and not good enough for the club,” Meulensteen told Tipman Tips. “
His performances are driven by himself and not for the team. He is a selfish player.
“You will never get your £80m back from Antony. I think that is stupid. When I heard about it,”
Meulensteen said. “I know when they heard about the deal in Amsterdam, they were delighted. It shows again that players in lower leagues, like in Holland, are completely different. They play in a very different style, the tempo is much slower. “
Teams like Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord are the three best. So it is not difficult for them to have a good image. “
But coming to the Premier League is very different. What will it be like for Anthony to come back? How many goals and assists will he have? He will probably score as many as in Spain, maybe more than in England. Football in other leagues suits him better.”
Meulensteen was similarly harsh in his criticism of Garnacho, after the winger criticised Ruben Amorim after he was dropped for the Europa League final.
“Garnacho is the same as Anthony,” Meulensteen added. “Yes, he is still a young player, but personality-wise, there is something not right with him and he is a bad thing for the club, which shows in his performances and inconsistency. “
He is a high-priced young player, so if they come across an offer of any kind, They should take a loss because they can’t fully exploit his potential at Old Trafford and that could leave the club with money to spend on other players.”
